Trixie loved getting outdoors to play.
She would leap from the porch into the yard and loved jumping back onto the porch and back into the yard until I would play with her.
When we couldn’t get out to a park or open area we would play a game I called “catch me”. I would stand in the yard and clap my hands as she ran around me. When she came close I’d reach out to swat her gently on the hind end as she ran past. She was always so full of energy and loved playing that game.
When she had enough and finally wore out (that took quite a while) she would lie down near me until she regained her breath. Then, it was more running in circles around me. We always had such fun with that activity.
Catching the Frisbee was something Trixie never quite figured out. My earlier dog, Trooper, loved to snatch it out of the air and would jump several feet to do so. He was real good at it. Trixie, however, would not grab it while in the air. She was perfectly happy to let it land before going to it, picking it up, and bringing it back to me for more.
The water sprinker, on the other hand, was something Trixie figured out.
I don’t know if Trixie saw the water sprinkler as something to play with or a source of water. She did seem fascinated by it when I had it on. I was fun to watch her approach it as she figured out what to do about it. Of course, when she figured out it provided some refreshing drink, she would partake.
While Trixie was not necessarily a destructive dog; she didn’t chew up stuff around the house, destroy furniture, or anything like that.
She did like tearing up paper, though, and I would let her make a mess of the office with newspapers. She would also sometimes follow me to the front door when I retrieved the mail and was always happy to get to sink her teeth into junk mail which I gave her. Once she got the outer envelope torn off, she was done.
Trixie had no shortage of toys to play with as a younger dog and would happily chase and retrieve whatever I tossed out for her.
As she grew older, she seemed to lose interest in toys but never lost her interest in getting outdoors.
Brave, playful, energetic, pleasant and cheerful, their tails are seemingly always in motion. I set up a sorta obstacle course in my back yard and Trixie loved jumping over those hurdles. In fact, she loved running and playing in the back yard.
